Groups at The Aspen Center
Mindfulness and Meditation Group

Wednesdays at 11:00am

There's been a lot going on lately. When’s the last time you took a deep breath? If you’re interested in learning more about mindfulness and meditation in a practical way, The Aspen Center is starting a weekly group on February 10th to bring a little more focus, calm, and body awareness into your day. The group will meet on Wednesdays at 11:00am and will include guided meditations with our therapists, as well as psychoeducation about the ideas and benefits behind mindfulness. This will be an open group, and new members are welcome to join throughout the process. Sessions are $35, and can be billed to insurance.

Due to the ongoing health crisis, this group will meet via Zoom for Healthcare, a HIPAA-compliant platform that allows attendees to connect securely and safely with the Group Leaders.

Groups meet for 50 minutes.

DBT Group
Wednesdays at 6:00pm

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) gives patients the opportunity to manage painful emotions and decrease turmoil in relationships. DBT focuses on four main areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, personal effectiveness, and emotional regulation. Mindfulness helps a person recognize and be present in the current moment. Distress tolerance increases the person’s ability to experience and manage difficult feelings rather than avoiding them. Emotional regulation develops skills that help individuals manage extreme emotions that are creating difficulties in one’s life. Finally, interpersonal effectiveness derives from a series of skills that enable a person to assert her or his objectives in a relationship, while maintaining one’s integrity and the value of the relationship.

In sum, what DBT does is effectively balance opposites. It helps the individual deal with and reconcile seemingly opposite perspectives in ways that are not black-and-white nor either-or, thus forming a solid basis for acceptance and change.

In our DBT skills training group, members will learn and practice skills together. Members will be asked to share their experiences, and to be mutually supportive of one another. Participants will then be assigned homework that involves practicing the skills that they learned in the sessions. Groups meet for 50 minutes. Sessions are $35, and can be billed to insurance.
